Meet Matt Cole — Miniature artist, kettlebell convert, and the man proving that it’s never too late to hit a massive personal record.

Matt joined the Graviton family in May 2024, looking for two things: strength training and expert coaching. What he found was a new level of resilience and a fitness tool he’ll likely use for the rest of his life.

When Matt isn't at the gym, he’s exercising a very different kind of precision. He’s a talented artist who spends his time painting intricate miniatures for D&D and tabletop board games. It’s a hobby that requires patience and a steady hand—traits that, as it turns out, translate pretty well to the world of strength and conditioning!

The biggest highlight of Matt’s year came at the pull-up bar. After dedicated training and consistent effort, Matt accomplished something he had never done before: his very first strict pull-up at 41 years old. It’s a powerful reminder that our "peak" isn't a fixed point in our 20s. With the right direction and a lot of heart, you can hit PRs (personal records) and life-firsts at any age.

Beyond the physical gains, Matt says the gym has taught him a lot about his own mental toughness. He’s learned that he can always push himself a little harder, even on those days when the motivation isn't quite there. That sense of resilience—showing up and putting in the work regardless—is exactly how we win the long game of health.

"The gym has taught me that I can always push myself a little harder even when I feel like maybe I don’t want to."

One of the biggest surprises for Matt? His newfound love for the kettlebell. Before Graviton, he didn't realize just how versatile and effective they could be. Now? He’s a total convert. Matt says he’s learned so much about the various exercises possible with them that he plans on using kettlebells as a staple in his training forever.

Why Graviton?

For Matt, the "why" is simple: it’s the people. He sticks around because of the friendly coaches and the supportive community. He’s found the coaching staff especially helpful when navigating minor injuries, always providing smart modifications and alternative exercises to keep him moving safely toward his goals.

Whether he’s painting a dragon or swinging a kettlebell, Matt is all about the details and the discipline. We’re so proud to have him in our ranks!
