Meet Melissa M. — Equestrian, music festival marathoner, and Graviton’s very first member of the 400 lb Barbell Hip Thrust Club.
Melissa has been a staple of the Graviton community since July 2023. If she isn’t at the gym, there is a very high chance you’ll find her at the stable. Melissa has been riding since she was 11 years old, formerly worked on farms, and finally achieved a lifelong dream five years ago when she bought her very own horse.
For Melissa, fitness isn't just about what happens inside our four walls—it’s about how it fuels her life outside of them.
Training for the Real World
Melissa knew Graviton was the right fit because of our heavy emphasis on functional fitness. Her goals are rooted in the longevity, endurance and general health. She wanted a program that ensured she could keep riding, working, and moving well for decades to come.
She’s already seeing those "functional" dividends pay off in a big way. Whether it’s going for a long hike and realizing she isn't winded while her friends are struggling, or dancing through a three-day music festival with energy to spare, Melissa is living proof that gym strength is life strength.
"The ways that fitness shows up in my everyday life is important to me"
Big Wins and Heavy Lifts
Since joining, Melissa has checked off some massive milestones. She conquered the heights of the gym by mastering the rope climb, a feat that requires a perfect blend of technique and grit. But she didn't stop there. Melissa also made Graviton history by becoming the first person in the gym to barbell hip thrust over 400 lbs. It’s a testament to her consistency and her willingness to push the boundaries of what she thought was possible.
The Hardest Part is the Front Door
When asked what she’s learned at Graviton that applies to the rest of her life, Melissa pointed to the mental hurdle of just showing up.

"The hardest part is starting and getting here," she admits. "Once you’re here and you’re moving and you’re surrounded by your friends, the hour just flies by and you get it done."
That philosophy—just showing up and letting the community carry you through—is exactly how Melissa stays so consistent.
Whether she's in the saddle or under a 400 lb barbell, Melissa’s dedication to her own longevity is inspiring to everyone around her. We can’t wait to see what milestone she hits next!
