Meet Sue Shoesmith — Data scientist, 5:45 AM early bird, and a pillar of consistency at Graviton for nearly five years.
Sue joined Graviton in September 2021. For almost half a decade, she has been a definitive part of our community, proving that even the busiest schedules have room for elite consistency. Living right here in Arlington with her husband and two teenage kids, Sue is a familiar face to anyone who values the dedication it takes to win the long game of health and fitness.

The Perfect Fit: Close to Home, Big on Results
When Sue first started looking for a gym, the convenient Arlington location was what initially caught her eye. But it was what happened inside the gym that made her stay. Once she experienced the Graviton class format—combining targeted lifting to build functional strength with sustainable cardio to build endurance—she knew she had found the perfect training home.
The formula clearly works. Looking back at her progress, Sue sums it up perfectly:
"I've gotten stronger and I keep coming back for more."
Defying the Alarm Clock: The 5:45 AM Crew
You won't find Sue hitting the snooze button. Her favorite time to train is our earliest session of the day: the 5:45 AM "Early Bird" class.
Showing up four times a week at dawn, Sue has racked up an incredible milestone of nearly 800 classes attended since joining. For Sue, the early time slot is a deliberate, tactical choice. Getting her workout done first thing in the morning allows her to fully prioritize her own health and fitness, while still leaving plenty of time to get back home and ensure her teenagers get off to school smoothly.
In fact, Sue notes that showing up and working hard at dawn is one of her absolute favorite parts of the day. It sets a positive tone and puts the rest of her demanding day into perspective.
Big Wins and Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone

Over her five years of training, Sue has achieved some incredible milestones, but there is one moment at Graviton she will never forget: capturing her very first strict pull-up.
That milestone didn't happen by accident; it was the result of a mindset that Sue has honed in everyday life. When asked what she has learned at Graviton that applies beyond the gym, Sue shared the importance of embracing discomfort to grow.
To Sue, it means mastering the mental game: acknowledging those mornings when you think, "I don't really feel like doing this,"Â but choosing to do it anyway because you know it will benefit you in the long run.

Why Graviton?
What keeps Sue setting that early alarm year after year? It’s a mix of effective and fun class programming and unmatched support. She credits the incredible community of members, the dedicated coaches, and a class format that seamlessly fits into her lifestyle as the driving forces behind her five-year streak.
Whether she's analyzing complex data sets, mastering the pull-up bar, or sending her kids off to school, Sue brings a level of dedication that inspires the entire 5:45 AM crew. We are incredibly proud to have her as a member of the Graviton team for the last five years!
